The Ladies Room

There are lots of skin care tips to be found on the internet and in magazines. The problem is that most of these tips are somewhat unachievable.

Let’s face it – how likely are you to go through a six step skin care regimen every day? While this would be optimal, most of us have busy lives that require lots of our time. Simply put, we just don’t have enough hours in the day to care for skin as some skin care experts would like us to. Still, there are some simple tips that you can do every day…and they won’t take up a lot of your energy.

The first practical skin care tip is: don’t smoke. Simple enough, right? Smoking reduces the amount of circulation within your skin. This is the main reason why smokers often give off a dull appearance. When you smoke, poison and oxidants are being pumped into your skin causing your skin to choke. If you smoke, make every possible effort to quite – no amount of skin care products will stop your skin from aging if you smoke.

Next, make sure to get lots of sleep. Try not to stay up too late at night. If you can, go to bed early and rest properly. Your body needs a lot of sleep to recuperate from a long day. Sleep deprivation can easily cause the skin to look tired, dark, and yellowed. There are some skin care products that can help skin to look rejuvenated after a sleepless night, but a lack of sleep can speed up the aging process.

This next tip is for all the women out there: ladies – make sure that you are applying clean makeup. Change those makeup sponges weekly; throw out old makeup; and don’t use any makeup that looks dirty or has been neglected. Makeup should only last from 6 to 12 months. After that time period has passed, it’s time to throw your makeup away, and start from scratch. Likewise, don’t fall prey to every item of makeup under the sun.

If you walk by a makeup counter, resist the urge to ask a sales girl what you need to purchase. Chances are, you will wind up with a bag full of makeup…and more than two thousand different chemicals that you will slather onto your skin. If you are going to use makeup, use a minimal amount – and make sure to purchase products that include lots of natural ingredients; sunblock; and moisturizer.

When it comes to aging, nothing ages skin quicker than: lack of sleep; smoking, and old makeup. Additionally, applying the right skin care products is crucial to the state of your healthy skin. Products that contain lots of chemicals should be avoided, while products that are made from natural resources should be sought. This might seem difficult, but it is the one sure way to prevent your skin from aging.

Stick to the practical advice listed above. All of these things will help to fight off the signs of aging effectively. Nothing ages your skin quicker than lack of proper care. While you might not have time to work on your skin for hours every day, you can certainly practice proper skin care habits.

Any great beauty tips and tricks?
Just wondering if any of you have any makeup/skin care tips and tricks and wanted to share?

Mine is this: I can’t stand zits BUT always have the urge to pick or squeeze them when they pop up… but I hate the mark it leaves and waiting for it to heal (if I get carried away)! So I wait til night-time, use two cotton buds to squeeze them, and apply Carmex (a coldsore treatment) over it – it seems to heal really really quickly! Works wonders.

(The reason I do it at night is because I have no make-up on and I don’t have to go in public with a shiny spot from the carmex on my face)

Anyone else want to share ?

I wouldn't define it as "perfect" beauty per-se, but maybe the most preferable or easiest to work with.

Because almond eyes essentially have the same proportions throughout, it's easy to work with and easy to line and enhance and stuff. If your eye is big, then the middle will be bigger than the corners. For almond eyes, it is almost essentially the same until the corners.

I never get dark circles around my eyes and I think I have "almond eyes", I don't really know why it is. But makeup also doesn't tend to want to stay on my face too much so I have to apply lots of translucent powder and stuff if I am wearing it.

Also, asians do not like to wear makeup or put skin products that can damage their skin, so their skin is very pure and untouched by various chemicals that are in the makeup. They also have very straight hair, which is the basic canvas to do any sort of hairstyle. That's pretty much it.

some schools allow you to go work at a hair salon and watch and help around. you learn alot. even asking for a part time job at a local hair salon (maybe not a huge one, but a tiny small business salon is nice.) you'd just clean up and help around (you dont cut hair or do anything like that), and most lady's or men will be willing to let you watch and learn, and maybe even teach you a few things, but you have to go to beauty school if you want to do peoples hair. they might ask you to wash peoples hair now and then. its really good experience to watch them cut, dye, ect peoples hair and see how its done. also… you can buy those big doll heads in toy stores, there not that much money.(they make them for girls to braid and such, but you can cut the hair, wont be the same as real hair though..) they would be good to practice on if you really needed to.but for now though, my advice is watch and learn until you get the opportunity for beauty school. and i wouldn't try cutting someones hair, or your own until you have somewhat of an idea what to do.

i love how that person said the same thing as i did…..

Is all a matter of opinion and what you really want from it. I intend to get back into Aikido as as much as I abhor violence I'd like to be able to stop anyone trying to attack me. They all have their positives for your body and fitness, whichever you are comfortable with and enjoy doing is best for you.

Well if you have a Krav Maga and an Aikido place by you, then you should sit and watch a couple of sessions. Even as an Expert in Krav Maga I'm not going to give you a recruiting speech on Krav Maga is better than Aikido, in fact, no professional in the martial arts field would ever do that, at least the ones I have known for over 30 years. Is Aikido effective….yes, is Krav Maga effective…yes, is Judo effective…yes, is boxing effective….yes, is high school wrestling effective…….yes. Now, let's talk about the average situation, most of the time someone will grab you, push you, or come up from behind, Aikido has some effective techniquess, and so does Krav Maga. Now, you have to defend yourself on the street with your girlfriend, maybe your wife and children, what would be more effective on "Street Thugs" or criminals who have spent years in prison and do nothing but lift weights??? Is Aikido the answer? Is Krav Maga the answer? Now, how is the curiculum in the school you choose to pick? What is the quality of the Instructor/Sensei? Are you doing "real world screnarios" "multiple attackers" are you wearing protective gear and getting hit, and hitting back? All of these should be included in your choice. Now, I will stop about Aikido, because I have never studied it, so let's talk about Krav Maga:

Within 12 weeks you will be able to:

Be able to instinctively defend against strikes from a myriad of angles.
Be able to release from grabs, hair pulls, and chokes from all angles.
Be consciously aware of your surroundings, safety, and impending danger, recognizing danger sooner so that you will be able to anticipate and ideally prevent an attack from happening.
Have increased hand/eye and right-side/left-side body coordinations.
You will be in the best shape of your life.

Krav Maga builds core strength. The stronger your core muscles, the better able you'll be able to put all of your body weight behind your punches, kicks, and other strikes.

You can say Krav Maga is like "dirty street fighting" and it is not an Asian Martial Art. Krav Maga utilizes the best from several martial arts, that have been know to work on the street and in a combat environment.

Your choice, there is no wrong choice, it is up to you.

Just me vonhiggins. Sorry for the intrusion.

But, I must say, you're too kind to the rest of us. It is not just the last question, but one prior you deleted as well which we struggled with. Something about…the Daedalus construction….and how invention can deconstructively be the mother of necessity…causing an inexorable dialectic towards modernity?

Sorry, I was just joking around a bit in those days…

I believe it is Strauss who has claimed to identifying the three waves of modernity, being Machiavelli, Rousseau and Nietzsche. Yet, Cleon is a great example of skillful political manipulations long before we had the revelations of those three. It is remarkable how completely he dominated the political scene and dispensed with his prospective rivals in light of the skepticality regarding his ascension. Why, it's much akin to the political success of one Bill Clinton, if I may say so.

"Give the people what they want!" Cleon's claim to superiority, though, is the lack back then of incessant political polling which Bill relied on for survival. Cleon had an excellent intuition which presaged his rivals.

More personal liberty? Well, I guess (for the masses), beauty is in the eye of the beholder…

Oh, by the way – I don't know anything about videos & on-line gaming. Please don't hold that against me? Especially since I'm no Ariadne.

You can do it, but it's going to be rather expensive unless you are willing to give up some of the conveniences of modern life. First concern would be water, but you can probably have a well dug for a couple grand. The next concern would be electricity (lights, a/c, refrigerator) and that will be a bit more expensive. You can produce your own electricity but those systems are expensive and you would have to live relatively conservatively (can't set the thermostat to 68)

The view and experience would be amazing, but in answer to your question would it be practical…. Far from it!

This is a tough question. There is a perpetuated myth about our industry….That it's a good career to "fall back on".

Yes there is money to be made.

If you rent your station (not a good idea straight out of school) you can expect to work more then 60 hours a week and NOT make any money for quite some time. Upwards to 2 years. But the end result is money money money…all of it yours minus rent and supplies…You are reliant on that clientel and you will have to meet their demands on your schedule and hours or you will perish.

Commission yeilds the same results of having to work lots of hours with no reward for about the same 2 years. End result is 60%-70% of the money and less supplies out of pocket. Decent money and again clientel reliant…Meet the client need or no money and lose clients.

Then there is the hourly employee…You will get minimum wage or near minimum wage. You will have to work a strict schedule with nearly no weekends off. There is usually a goal oriented commission that you don't reach too often. It's set fairly high to prevent the majority from reaching it. The hours are designated so you won't be working 60+ to try to please clientel…Only immediate desk supplies are necessary and some places even provide all but the scissors.
They will hire you part time for a body to fill the space probably out of desperation…but they will resent your lack of hours when they really look at how to fit you in the schedule. Management is usually undereducated and bullyish, so you will find yourself having to complain about the schedule not fitting your college hours…You can see the vicious cycle right there..LoL

So here's the problem…If you Rent? No real money or time for school…Commission? Not enough money or time for school….Employee? Now you will have cash flow…but management will prevent you from going to school…I've seen it in every job I've held…People who go to school to do something OTHER then hairdressing get the short end of the stick…

Sorry this is so long..but I wanted to be as real as possible with you :) :)

I'm sure you could find someone who will allow you to do an apprenticeship under them. However, the best way to actually learn everything and feel more confident in what you do would be to go to school- then do an apprenticeship. Also, if you plan on applying makeup to customers or doing their hair, etc. you must have a license—this gives you permission to touch. Without it you are opening yourself up to a world or trouble. Good luck!!

I really like the MAC brush cleaner because it cleans and conditions at the same time. And It is pretty reasonable in price. $11 USD. It really works well to get all of the excess or remaining product.

Are you in India? I'm in USA, and I am famaliar with that type of dancing. My daughter took lessons in it when she was little, and more recently Nityagrahm dance ashram near Benares (I think that was the name of it). Anyway, she was in Rama plays and Krsna plays when she was little, and we just got her costumes from fabric stores and sewed them up ourselves. They do have these kits that you can buy to paint the palms and feet. I've seen them in East Indian shops in this country. There are people who paint hands and feet for you, for a fee. Aren't there a lot of plays in India where the men play female roles? At any rate, I wish I could see the concert myself. I love Indian dance and music. Good luck, nameste!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder…and thats the truth. We are all different…and what you think is beauty, I may disagree. I know that I am pretty…but it isn't helping my marriage any…and I think that my husband is handsome. and that hasn't changed my outlook on things…
When you get married you saw something beautiful in the other person…and afterwards you see the good and the bad…I have heard that guys want to marry an ugly girl so they know they won't cheat and will be there for them, because they think they can't get anything else…so I guess it depends on the person…I would only marry for love…but in the end will love be enough??? Good Luck

I agree with Cracker Jack, lay it on her like no one else in bed.

Also, give her all of your attention by gifts or even cute poems.

Remind her how beautiful she is and that she is your everything.

A woman is willing to do anything for a man she thinks she is his world.

good luck in your findings!

First off, don't do a job because of the money, do it because its something you enjoy. you don't even need a long term job, your young, do something that interests you on a whim. If you want to learn to snowboard, work at a ski resort, if you want to do your makeup better, go to cosmetology school. The point is do what you like, your degree shows people that you can commit to something for four years, thats it. And that girl didn't get an entry level job for 80k, she worked hard at her lower paying entry level and met the right people that showed her doors to open. You have to be willing to start at the bottom to get to the top sweety, thats just reality
