Proper care of your skin, the right way to wash your face, to the best moisturizers and UV protection. The skin is the largest organ of our body. With good skin care, you can not only keep you healthy, but also maintain the youthful appearance longer. Skin care tips are another easy way to gradually improve the quality of life. If you understand what makes a good skin care product, you can shop intelligently the next time you’re at the pharmacy and see an improvement, even without adding extra products to your daily routine. Appropriate use of moisturizers or certain ingredients can slow down aging, increasing the brightness of his skin and combat blemishes and spots. You should eat at least five daily servings of fruits and vegetables to cleanse the body of toxins that can affect your metabolism. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that may help prevent free radical damage to skin.

Focus on hydrating: There is no way around this; you must increase the use of moisturizer in the winter months. Exposure to cold air literally robs your skin of its natural healing ability, and this leads to dryness, flaking and cracking. You need a three-step moisturizing process to maintain healthy skin in these conditions. First, use a gentle body soap that is designed to provide moisturizers. Follow this by applying body lotion after your shower to lock in moisture. Finally, invest in a good facial moisturizer that is free of perfumes and other unnecessary additives. Apply immediately after this time you wash your face.

Skin Care Tips:
1. Avoid getting cold sores in the first place by not sharing things lip balm, toothbrush, or drinks with other people who have cold sores. The virus that causes cold sores is transmitted through the nose in sputum and mouth in saliva.
2. Use sunscreen. Apply SPF 15 in winter and use a higher SPF sunscreen if you’re on vacation on the slopes or the beach.
3. An apple a day – Have an apple with the skin as a snack.
4. Vitamin B helps keep your skin tone healthy.
5. Facial treatment that is very useful for those with oily skin.
6. Remove your makeup before going to sleep.
7. We all know that the sun can damage skin, but you knew that you can contribute to eye problems, too? Protect your face and eyes with a hat and sunglasses that provide 100% UV protection.
8. Cold water fish – Sardines are a good source of essential fats. Salmon is another good source, however these salmon accumulate toxic polychlorinated biphenyls in their body fat during the 95 percent of their lives they spend at sea.
9. Protect your lips. Lips can be especially prone to dry skin because it has no oil glands. Do not lick your lips to moisturize them. Instead, use an oil-based wax or lip balm.
10. Reduce stress increases your heart rate and blood pressure and can lead to stroke.
11. Eat healthy foods and good nutrition for the body

I would definitely use soaps and lotions that are fragrance free and void of any products that contain alcohol in one of the first 5 ingredients(usually the first 5 ingredients have a very large percentage in the base of the product). I'd also recommend using gloves while doing dishes or using other household cleaning products, your skin will remain rather fragile for the next 3-4 months… You also need to use caution while in the sun…scar tissue remains "active" for about 1 year, which means if you get a sunburn on "new skin" or a scar ..what ever color it turns,it will probably stay that color. You also need to be cautious when showering, bathing or doing dishes.coz the water may feel OK on an area not burned and reignite the uncomfortable sensation of the burn ALL over again. You also need to make sure that your skin remains soft and pliable and that your fingers are not developing contracturs, this could be a serious situation and medical attention should be sought.P.S. I'd also steer clear of petroleum based products, they are VERY drying to the new healthy granulating tissue.I'd recommend a lanolin type product.I know alot of people will say Vaseline is recommended for burns….but think about it petrolium…gasoline…VERY VERY drying to the skin especially to the new skin! I take care of burns and other nasty wounds for a living I hope you take my advice, and even if you don't Good Luck ! burns hurt!

The brown on your iguana could just be because he isnt settled in yet so not very happy at the moment but it could also be because he is about to shed. The sore on his mouth could be just because of rubbing it on the glass too much but it could also be mouth rot which is an infection that can be caused through snout rubbing. You can either take him to the vets or go onto ebay and buy him some vetadine. t is a solution of povidone iodine and available iodine. This is what the vets would give you anyway. you need to buy some of this then get a cotton wool bud and gentley cleanse the wound twice to three times a day with it.
It treats bacterial, fungal and yeast infections. You need to do this as soon as you can because if it is mouth rot it can cause permanent deformaties to the mouth and nose area.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Have you considered a reptile expo? They often have a large selection of breeders and morphs. They might also have an adult that needs a home. You can checkout kingsnake.com for expos near you.

If you decide not to get the bearded dragon from craigslist for what ever reason you might look for a tank on craigslist. They can be pretty cheap if you go for a second hand one. Just make sure you clean it well.

I also recommend you take it to the vet soon after you get it. This way if it does have something wrong with it you can treat it early with better luck.

Do you know what you can't feed bearded dragons?
Do you know what to look for if it becomes sick?
What do you plan on putting in the bottom of the cage for a substrate?

Good luck convincing your parents!

I would suggest that you get infant soy formula, as it is much more like rat milk(nutrition wise). The protein in kitten milk is much too high for rats. Be sure that you are weighing her and feeding her accordingly. She needs a certain amount of food based on her weight.

It is very hard to successfully raise an infant rat under 3 weeks old. Chances are, she is not going to make it. Her best chance is a surrogate mom that will nurse her.

Remember that once she is a week old you need to add in night feedings every 3 hours. Between 1 week old a 2 weeks old, you have to feed at night. It is not until 3 weeks that you can take out the night feeding all together. I would suggest looking at a growth chart to pin point her age, otherwise you are not going to know when to increase the night feeding from once, to every three hours.

It is very time consuming and tiring to raise an infant rat. The care has to be just right for them to survive, and even seasoned professionals have a hard time raising pinkies.

I suggest you check out the following websites that will give you details on how you need to care for the baby to increase the chances of survival.
http://www.rmca.org/Articles/orphans.htm
http://www.ratfanclub.org/orphans.html

Make sure you keep a close eye on her weight and check for dehydration, etc. I personally would look for a surrogate, b/c odds are, she is not going to make it without a mother.

I have to ask, I remember another of your questions with a pinky mouse you took from a pet store. What happened to him? If that baby died and you still decided to seal another animal to the same fate, than that is a shame. Please learn from your mistakes that infants need their moms to survive, and by taking them(even if they are going to be food), you are dooming them to a certain death anyway, one which is even slower and more painful.

It could be dehydration as you think, iguana's need to learn to drink standing water, and some of them never do. Check her for it, just as you would any other pet. Gently pinch up a fold of skin and it should snap right back into place. Several things can help get more water into her. Add plain old ice burg lettuce to her diet. yes, its considered the bane of reptile keepers everywhere. But its also 90% Water..just don't feed it ass 100% of her food. Get a Little dripper from the pet store. its a container that will drip water over the course of a day, I run one in my sons iggy cage and it drips onto some plastic plants. he drinks from those.

if your thinking it has bone disease you can do a few things to help, A UVB light will help some, but they are alot of work and rather ineffective. Solar drops are a supplement you put directly on the food and contain D3. Getting your pet into Direct sunlight 10-20 minutes a day is the best option weather permitting..
Find a good Herp vet and get your new girl checked out, god knows what she's gotten in years of poor husbandry.

I would try a product like Shed Ease to help with the shedding. Since you are giving him baths and trying to help with sheds that way and it's not helping. They are becoming more popular in the US as pets, I have looked into them myself but I don't have the room for another large tank at this time. To help him be "happier", I would let him stay out of the tank for as long as possible as much as possible. If you are feeding him any super worms or other large worms you can play "fetch the worm" with him. While he is out, toss a worm onto the floor away from him, he should notice it and them he'll run to eat it and then toss another is a different direction. My Blue tongue and beardie love to play. I am sorry to hear that you are far away from vets who could help you. What about universities? Some have herp depts and may be able to guide you to a vet or help you themselves. If you have a vet school near you, they may be able to help. If you still can't get the help you need, you may need to expand your search area. I have to travel 30 miles to get to one of the few vets in my area that treat reptiles but it easily could have been more. Since this is an expensive lizard (they go for almost 300 in NY), it's in your best interest to search out all possible avenues of help. Good luck.

Your essay is persuading, but I must poke some holes in it. It's for your benefit that I do that. Being in HOT Texas doesn't mean that you won't need extra lights to provide the correct temps in the tank. Only your basking spot should be at 100 degrees, the rest of your tank during the day should be around 80. You mention getting a ceramic heat emitter (CHE) for night (the lightless lamp), make sure that you get the open cage design for it instead of the closed dome you would use for the regular lights because the CHE gets so much hotter you want to let the extra heat escape so it doesn't blow up. You will still need a basking lamp, a UV strip light and a night bulb to ensure that your tank doesn't drop below 65. You can say that even though some light bulbs will be required, the amount the electric bill would go up should be negligible (not much). Print up about 4 different care sheets (I would say buy a book or two, but that can wait until you have the lizard) to show that you have done your research and you know what is required. It's good that you already have the "food issue" in mind, but make sure that you print up a list of fruits and veggies that the should/shouldn't eat so when they about diet you can show them what types of fruits and veggies you are talking about. Bluetongueskinks.net has a great spreadsheet that lists what is good and bad for them to eat and this list can be used for almost any veggie eating lizard. They will still need to get proteins when they are older, they don't get complete out of the diet. Super, meal, wax, butter, goliath, phoenix worms can all be addd to the diet in addition to the crickets for more variety. You can even get him a small amount of cooked eggs about once a month (they should be feed rarely), stay away from wanting to feed them pinkies, they don't need to eat them unless it's a pregnant female. Yes you are right they do need a 40 gallon tank, but this size tank will last their entire lifetime, I would start with this size tank and get a tank divider instead of a small tank and replacing as he grows. It will be cheaper, you would be able to give him a small space that can grow as he does. I guess NY really is expensive since beardies run $90 for babies at pet stores here. It is okay to buy a lizard from a store as long as you look out for a few things. You will need to hold the lizard first, look at the eyes, if they are sunken in that is bad. Does the skin just hang there? Do the bones of the tail or back legs show? That is a sign of bad nutirtion and he is unhealthy. Does he try to bite at you? That could be a good sign, it means he has a lot of energy. If there is a group of lizards in the tank, make sure that you don't pick one that is not with the group, that could be a sign that something is wrong. Don't get one that is getting picked on by the others, also a sign that it could be sick. Remember that just because the guy is a breeder doesn't mean he cares for the lizards in the best way possible. If you go through Craigslist you would also be buying sight unseen, and he might be sick or injuried. I hope that these suggestions, will help you get the lizard you want. GOOD LUCK.

go to safepiercing.org for proper aftercare and waht to avoid. do the saline soaks, then dip a qtip in the saltwater and gently wipe away the dried gunk. soaking it will soften everything up so it should come right off.
antibacterial soap is too harsh and will delay healing. it kills the good bacteria that your body needs to heal. it also damages the delicate new skin cells. if you must use it, don't use it more than once a day.
really, all you need are the saline soaks.

A plastic retainer shouldn't irritate it when healed but with my nostril piercing, it can sometimes get the dreaded "bump" and be irritated for a while. If you have h2ocean, that's basically all you may need besides some q-tips, that stuff really works wonders with all piercings and is great for on-the-go care.

When my friend got her nosed pierced, they said she could swim, but to wash the piercing right after she gets out so the chlorine doesn't irritate. But to be safe I wouldn't swim for at least two weeks.

Also, all professional piercing jewelry is surgical stainless steel unless you ask for something else (because almost everyone isn't allergic to it), just wanted to let you know (:

It sounds like you're just telling us things instead of showing and developing the personality of your different characters.

A few suggestions:
You have a lot of details, like the mother's full name and how the father has Jewish parents from New Mexico. Are these details important? Or are they filler?

Is this a prologue? There doesn't seem to be much plot here. Try adding a catalyst, or a plot device that sets off a chain of events. You've got the characters down, now try to give them something to do and interact with.

Hope I helped! :]

I would say you're quite articulate for a 14 year old. It is well structured and gives great insight to the characters, yet leaving that hint of mystery.

Good job. Way better than some of the garbage I've seen posted here by teens.

What to call this story? Hmmm…hard to say without knowing more.

You will probably figure it out by the time you finish your story. One idea would be to pick a meaningful word or phrase that you've used in your story as its title.
